The Night of Solidarity is an operation that counts the number of homeless people in a given area on a given night. This initiative has been carried out by the City of Paris since 2018.
Following a first Night of Solidarity in 2022, in nine municipalities (487 homeless people counted) and a second night in 27 municipalities (619 people counted), the third Metropolitan Night of Solidarity took place in January 2024 in 32 municipalities, marking a growing involvment in the initiative. Apur has accompanied the process since it began and analyses the results.
The results confirm the presence of a great number of people with no accommodation solution beyond Paris intra-muros. The first part of the study reviews the metropolitan counting method. The second looks at the organisation implimented throughout Grand Paris, during the last three Nights of Solidarity. The third puts forward an analysis of the number and profiles of the people met, where they were located in the territory, and the results of the questionnaire. To conclude, the fourth part presents feedback on experiences in the field, going over some examples of action taken linked to and following on from the counting process.
