Créteil-L’Échat station neighbourhood

Observatory of the Grand Paris Express station neighbourhoods

The area around Créteil-L’Échat station is noteworthy for its major metropolitan facilities which house the  Henri-Mondor Hospital, the University of Paris-Est Créteil, the Val-de-Marne Departmental Council and more recently the Local Education Authority. It is also a major employment hub with 20,430 salaried employees and 20,170 inhabitants.

When line 15 South opens in the second half of 2027, it will interconnect with metro line 8, and thus improve access for residents, those working there, students and patients and visitors to the hospital.

Between 2010 and 2022, the population in the neighbourhood rose significantly by 9%. This trend is expected to continue and accelerate with the completion of 1,554 housing units in ongoing projects around the station and in the ZAC, urban development zone, Triangle de l'Échat.

Improvements to the station neighbourhood are nearing completion and include the redevelopment of public spaces on Rue Gustave Eiffel, the creation of a greened plaza and new pedestrian walkways that will facilitate access to the new station. Alongside this, the twofold increase of existing bicycle lanes in the neighbourhood will help to reduce breaks in the urban fabric which today limit mobility.
