Commodification of network services and urban fragmentation: an international comparative study (Paris, London, Stockholm, Cape Town)
COUTARD Oliver, JAGLIN Sylvie, RUTHEFORD Jonathan
LATTS-ENPC, research report, PUCA, October 2006, 331 p.
Are changes in the ways networks provide services and the means by which reforms are being put into practice by urban services (water and sanitation, energy, telecommunications) contributing to the increase in inequality and to urban fragmentation? This comparative study of several cities seems to show that the IÎe-de-France is less vulnerable to “the negative effects of these changes”.
On the fringes of the networks
Revue Flux, no. 76-77, 2009/2-3, 156 p.
This issue looks at so-called “alternative” systems, in particular those which make it possible to harness water resources (collection of rain water, installation of decentralised water distribution systems). Other subjects addressed include reforms in pricing systems.

Low population density and the cost of urban development
Revue Flux, no. 79-80, 2010/1-2
In a situation of low population density and low levels of activity, networked services are more seriously constrained by the question of costs. This issue attempts to understand if and how those key players involved in urbanisation take into account the costs of urban development incurred when financing network infrastructures.

Heating networks in Paris and the inner suburbs
Paris, APUR, Nov. 2006, 18 p.
The Île-de-France incorporates a large number of heating networks, of which a significant proportion run on renewable energy and on energy recovered from waste material. This study maps out these networks and classifies them according to various criteria: the populations they supply, their level of energy production, their greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to the global vision it offers to public authority representatives this resource should make it easier to identify the opportunities for expansion of the various networks, to encourage inter-communal activity and promote the use of renewable energy.

Port city, active participant in sustainable development
COLLIN Michèle (co-ord.)
Paris, the Harmattan, (Maritime collection), 2003, 204 p.
In a context where globalisation and sustainable development are becoming more and more closely linked, cities with ports, estuaries or logistic hubs are coming together and developing multiple modes of governance. The notion of productive co-operation on a territorial scale is becoming central. The first part of the book looks at the new territorial strategies implemented by the city ports, the second part at co-operation within city ports, a pre-condition of sustainable development.
The strategies of city ports in the uncertain context of globalisation
International Association of Cities and Ports
COLLIN Michèle (dir.)
CNRS-IFU, March 2001
Inclusion strategies in the logistics of world trade are analysed in relation to the ability of European city ports to extend and develop their links with inland territories …Three subjects are covered: the requirement that large infrastructure projects be multi-modal, strategies for inclusion in the logistics of world trade, and newly-established forms of governance. The first chapter is dedicated to city ports in France, some of which have been grouped together with their neighbours as metropolitan logistics hubs.

IFSTTAR, 2011, 12 p.
Given the wide variety of logistical platforms encompassed within the Ile-de-France, is it possible to make plans for logistics facilities in accordance with the objectives of sustainable development activities? In what way and by what means can a port provide an opportunity to make a modal shift? The authors reach a conclusion based on a study of facilities in three logistical sectors: messaging, large-scale distribution and river transport.
