Social housing figures in Paris
This note gives the main figures for social housing in Paris at the beginning of 2016.  It updates information on the social housing stock and how it is developing, as well as the demand for housing.
On January 1, 2015, there were 221,917 units of SRU social housing, representing 19.1% of principal residences in Paris. The total number of assisted and mid-range housing units managed by social landlords was 265,000.
The number of requests for social housing is particularly high in a context where the process for applying for housing is changing and becoming regional: in Ile-de-France in 2015, 219,532 households, of which 128,536 were Parisian, renewed or put in their first application and gave Paris as one of their preferred locations.
Over 11% of Parisian households have applied for social housing in Paris.
Statistical data about housing allocations located in the municipality have been available since April 2016 on the site https://www.demande-logement-social.gouv.fr/statistiques/. According to this source, 10,637 social housing units in Paris were allocated in 2015. To this figure can be added the unregistered allocations made from the housing stock by SEMs (mixed economy, semi-public companies) such as the RIVP (City of Paris Public Property Company), ELOGIE (Parisian social landlord agency), and SIEMP (Paris Mixed Economy Property Company).
