In Paris, nearly one dwelling in five (19%) is an unoccupied, a category which includes vacant housing (9%) as well as secondary residences and occasional accommodation (10%). Altogether, 260,000 unoccupied housing units have been counted in Paris among which are 128,000 unoccupied housing units and 134,000 which are secondary residences and occasional accommodation.
Unoccupied housing units are dwellings which are not the main residences of households. They include housing units which are unoccupied all year round, secondary residences used for short visits (week-ends, recreational activities or holidays) and occasional accommodation for professional reasons. The distinction between occasional accommodation and secondary residences is sometimes difficult to distinguish, which is why the two categories are often combined into one when processing the census.
These data were obtained from the recent 2020 Insee population census. The data are represented on the maps on the infra-municipal scale of IRIS (census plots for statistical information).
