44 hectares

actu - têtière actu - Le chiffre du mois - 44 hectares

This is the surface area of the embankments and green spaces which line the ring road, as against 100 hectares taken up by the road itself. Every year, these spaces are planted with 450 shrubs and 12,500 bulbs to maintain a display through the seasons.

Even though the ring road is a heavy infrastructure unhindered by the realities of topography, it has a remarkable relationship with the landscape and forms part of the green belt of Paris. The City of Paris biodiversity plan has included the reclassification of the green belt as a fundamental element in its programme, stimulating a sense of renewal in green space management policies.

In this context, the area around the ring road could provide plenty of opportunities to create an ecological continuity, through an adapted management system which respects the environment (no watering, recycling green waste on the spot, not using pesticides,...)
