Changes in the Parisian housing stock and developments
Exploitation of the FILOCOM* files over a long period, 2003-2011, has revealed a number of recent trends taking place in the Parisian housing stock, notably:
  • A drop in unoccupied property
  • An increase in home ownership and social housing
  • Erosion of the privately rented housing stock
  • A rise in income of home-owners and a drop in income of social housing tenants.
FILOCOM has the particularity of being the only file which contains information on both the incomes of households and the type of housing units occupied. Use of it has brought to light the specific nature of different segments of the Paris housing stock :  the incomes of home owners are much higher than any others (social housing and privately renting tenants) and the gap between these incomes is tending to grow ; households who rent from the social housing stock are becoming poorer while the privately rented housing stock continues to accommodate households of varying profiles.
