This study of the Lyon-Bercy-Austerlitz district is part of a larger Apur study of the districts of Parisian railway stations. It is made up of two sections.
The first, describes a tripole territory which has been almost completely renewed over the last 50 years and where some of the capital’s major development operations have successively taken place and are still ongoing. The issue in question involves the coherent functioning of the territory as a whole, firstly on the level of transport but equally the strengthening of its cohesion through a project that deals with public space and urban form :
- Left bank, the project is well underway ;
- Right bank, a project is to be started in the Gare de Lyon - Rapée street block-rue de Bercy sector in coordination with the projects underway in the Austerlitz and Bercy-Charenton sector. This is dealt with in the second section.
The rue de Bercy was conceived as the “area behind” the Gare de Lyon. It is cut-off from the main, attractive spaces of the station, and deals with all the cumbersome functions and services. However, the rue de Bercy is at the centre point of the tripole and has an extremely central position in the Parisian metropolis linking the services sector area of the Râpée block and the Gare de Lyon transport hub. The challenge is to transform this “behind the station” status into a recognized central area. The extent to which it malfunctions and the importance of the issues at stake make an overall project necessary that integrates the different aspects and phases and that deals with the public spaces, the station and the services sector building complex . The Apur study proposes evolution scenarios of the various aspects.
