Paris and Seine-Saint-Denis have formed an Olympic Games Agreement which binds them until 2024. Its aim is to intensify connections between the territories through projects for facilities and urban development that also serve people in the area.

The cycling circuit Project is part of this initiative, and aspires to give bicycle riding much wider visibility and to reinforce the cycling network by 2024.

The cycling circuits are intended to link Olympic and Paralympic sites during the Games and to create a continuous cycle path that encourages cycling in everyday life and as a leisure time activity. They are also contributing to setting up a metropolitan cycle network, a process which is currently gaining momentum in response to mobility issues linked to the health crisis.

In practical terms, cycling circuits represent 195 km of continuous cycle paths connecting 20 Olympic sites and running throughout the territories; 4 long-distance cycle routes will be shared with the cycling circuits.

This study was carried out by Apur in partnership with the City of Paris, the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis and the 4 Public Territorial Establishments (EPT ): Est Ensemble, Grand Paris Grand Est, Paris Terres d’Envol and Plaine Commune.

Based on principles that were drawn up collectively, the study presents a choice of routes for the cycling circuits. It describes the current progress of their creation, problematic aspects and development projects which could play a role in speeding up their construction. In addition it defines the first elements that will contribute to the project’s success, with services for cyclists and clear signposting, it also emphasises the importance of promoting the network.
