Colloquium - The child's place in the city

Colloquium - The child's place in the city
To walk, run, climb, roll, slide, play, hang about, swim, dance, talk, rest... so many activities are necessary for the development of young citizens and they can take place in public spaces. However, modern-day cities do not always make these practices possible and the spaces devoted to children and young people often keep them at a distance from urban life.
What place do we want to give them in our cities ? How should the distribution of public space be rethought, inventing spaces which are adapted to their needs and open to their imagination ? How can these participants in city life be associated to the conception of their everyday environment?
During the Annual General Assembly of the Paris Architecture, Urbanism and Environment Council, Pierre MANSAT – its Chairman,  the Board of Directors and the Paris CAUE team will organise a colloquium devoted to the place of children in the city.
Jean-Christophe Choblet,  urban designer at Apur, will contribute by presenting the diverse uses that young people make of public space.
Enrolment is compulsory by 9th April 2013, on the CAUE de Paris site.
