The metamorphosis of the urban motorway

The metamorphosis of the urban motorway
Motorways, although they have long been synonymous with progress, are  turning more and more into sources of congestion and pollution for the two million French people living in their immediate vicinity, and this is generating a lot of discussion as to their reclassification. This book goes back over the history of urban motorways, legacy of the car-dominated cities which are today in the throes of change, and highlights the developments and projects underway which are altering these infrastructures to meet the current needs of cities and their inhabitants, in France and abroad.
Urbanism agencies have been active in these transformations and this publication speaks for six of them - who attended a round table organised in 2014 and which Dominique Alba, Managing Director of Apur, participated in.
This first volume of the collection “Points Fnau” is the fruit of a collaboration between the Fnau  (National Federation of Urbanism Agencies) and several other agencies, including Apur, Iau and Urbalyon who were also in charge of managing and editing the book.
On the editorial committee, Apur was represented by Patricia Pelloux, Director of Metropolitan Studies, who took particular responsibility for the study of the road network at the heart of the Parisian conurbation. She contributed to the initial idea for the work and drafted the project files concerning the re-development of urban motorways, particularly those running along the banks of the Seine, the outer ring road (the covered section at the Porte des Lilas, renewing management schemes, restructuring the Bruneseau area junction), reclaiming the A4 motorway and experimentation abroad.
Cities concerned: Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Tours, Reims, Strasbourg, Grenoble, New York, San Francisco, Seoul, Teheran, Rio, Rabat, Medellin, Tbilissi.
The book is on sale in bookshops.
