Social housing statistics in Paris in 2013 - Edition 2014

Social housing figures for Paris, 2014

This note gives the main figures for social housing in Paris.  It updates information on the social housing stock and how it is developing, as well as on the demand for housing.
On January 1st , 2013, there were 207,684 social housing units -SRU-, comprising 17.9% of principal residences in Paris. The official number of social housing units for January 1st , 2014 is not yet available, but it should be close to 214,847 units, (18.5% of main residences) if the 7,163 units delivered in 2013 are taken into account. And, if the financed social housing units under construction or being re-developed are added, this gives a rate of 20.5% units.
In 2013, 7,151 new social housing units were financed in Paris. This figure is the highest since 2001. The number of housing units financed a year has grown continuously over the last ten years and, since 2007, more than 6,000 units have been financed every year. Set against this increase, requests for social housing are particularly high and are climbing faster than in previous years: in 2013, 134,734 households renewed or filed a first application with the City of Paris, of which 107,734 were in Paris.
Nearly 12,000 households were accommodated in Paris in 2013. Over a third of these allocations came from the City of Paris reserve of contingency housing stock (35.2%), and almost one allocation in five was made following selection by the Paris Prefecture (19.1%). The other units were allocated either from the quotas of the (UESL)- Union of Businesses and Employees for Housing - collecteurs du 1% - ,  or directly from businesses or from the State.
