Vegetation at the heart of a new urban model – APC Workshop n°15

Vegetation at the heart of a new urban model – APC Workshop n°15
Greening brings multiple benefits: rainwater management, contribution to biodiversity, combatting heat islands, improvement in air quality, contribution to thermic insulation and waterproofing of buildings, improvement in quality of life…
Between now and 2020, 100 hectares of roofs and façades will be greened, a third of which will be given over to fruit and vegetable production. The residents are very much in favour of this ambitious goal, as demonstrated by the fact that the proposal “Gardens on walls” came top of the list in the City of Paris vote on the participatory budget.
Vegetation enhances the offices, housing, industrial sites and streets of the city; this Workshop will hold discussions about the potential for greening Paris, including the quality and side benefits of greening, with a particular focus on energy and climate issues, and also the part vegetation can play in the ecological transition of Paris.
Workshop speakers are:
  • Bruno Gouyette, Director of Projects at the City of Paris General Secretariat
  • Fabienne Giboudeaux, Intelligent City Project Manager at Paris City Hall (to be confirmed)
  • Julien Bigorgne, Environmental Engineer at the Paris Urbanism Agency
  • Raphaëlle Kounkou-Arnaud, Research Engineer at Météo-France
  • Marc Barra, Ecologist at Natureparif
The Workshop will be structured around report summaries enabling a concise exchange of information and will include an open discussion between all participants.
